Re: Civil War Data site for Ohio

Kent,
I have a lot of information on John J. Myers, but I need something to link him to one of his brothers, parents or at least to Mercersburg. I was hoping that maybe the original volunteer enlistment paper might have a place of birth on it. I have his Civil War Widows Pension file, but it doesn't have much information. The censuses have him as being born in Pennsylvania, but not where in Pennsylvania. I've checked for an obituary, but the year he died was not available. I have (3) Marriage records, but none have his birth place. A fire destroyed the Cemetery records where he is buried. The "Mercersburg" John J. Myers' father was a "Tailor" as was the John J. Myers of Ohio & Illinois, so I believe they are all the same person, but need that final link. I'm running out of avenues. I've ordered a copy of his Military Records, but have not received them yet.

As for the Jacob Myers you found, I don't think that is his brother. He did have a brother, John Jacob Myers, but he was older and living in Illinois, where John Johnson Myers went after his divorce from Phebe. I found John Jacob Myers' obituary which listed his living brothers, thus making a positive link. Maybe the Jacob Myers you found was a cousin...worth looking into!

Below is what I have on John J. MYERS:
