Very interesting post. Not a lot on the web on the 13th Ohio Cavalry, but try www.ohiocivilwar.com/cwc13. It should give you a brief synopsis of the history of the regiment, and gives a list of bibliographical material. Your geographic location may make much of that material pretty inaccessible, though.

Six summers ago I spent one memorable morning driving up the mostly gravel road which parallels Rosebud Creek from its mouth up to the Cheyenne Reservation, then across on U.S. 212 over to the valley of the Little Big Horn, pretty much following Custer's route to the battle field. Absolutely stunning country. As open as the country is, I was struck as to how the Indians could have let Custer get almost on top of their villages before they knew he was there, and how Custer could get that close without having any real idea of what he faced. I would call it incompetence on both sides.
