Mr. Hauck,

Thanks for your reply concerning your wife's work on the Barnards' deafness. I had to go away for several days and just got back late yesterday, hence my lack of an answer until now. I don't ask that you send a copy of the assignment that led to your wife's work, unless it's pretty short, but I do have a remark in which you or she may be interested. One of my cousins, who lives in Texas, is the father of two boys who were born deaf. Since they are descendants of John Barnard as I am, he and other family members have, understandably, said that, yes, it's the family affliction, or something to that effect.

It's been a long time since I've seen or spoken with my cousin but possibly he or his wife would be interested in your wife's project and might have some information or observations to provide. Or maybe not. I can send them a letter and ask, if you would like. Let me know.
