Re: 2nd Lt. Eli.E.Burritt 21Mich.Inf.

Mr. Jenkins,I do know a relative though distant. If you tell me what you want I will contact. It would be up to her to respond. I have spent years and hundreds of dollars researching the events.Eli was held as an civilian prisoner at Atlanta Jan.13, 1863 as well as a military one. All of those held both Civilian and Military were forwarded starting Feb.26,1863 to Libby Prison by train. My memory says the Army of the Cumberland officially received his parole the 13 or 14th of May at least his new orders were written then. His release was prior as that group of Stones River prisoners ,approx. 75to 80 ? officers, went through Louisville, KY. first(Supply station for the Army of the Cumberland)before returning to camp at Murfreesboro,TN.My GGGrandfather had his picture taken at Louisville in his new uniform. Is Eli's sword a Solingen? My GGGrandfather was also a 1st Lt.only he received his commission in Sept. 62 for Meritorious Conduct at Pea Ridge Ark.in March of 62.His Regiment transfered to the Army of Ohio as Veteran Corps. The Army of Ohio under Buell became the Army of the Cumberland under Rosecrans in TN.My GGGrandfather too saw heavy fighting at Goodnight Spring(Perryville) His brother in law Pvt. Edward Clark lost his life there when Confederate Artillery opened up on them from above in Chaplin's Hills. It took him a month to die from infection. My GGGrandfather wrote Eli was rather dudish but, still came forward to save his life from the gallows. The return to Murfreesboro found the Army was reorganizing to move out for the Tullahoma Campaign in June 1863.
A persons life is more then a few dates on paper.....You need to look beneath that swords polish.Regards,Michael P.Elliott
