Re: Early Loomis Battery uniforms

I found and review the Detroit Free Press article of Sep 1 1860. Indeed the reporter gave good descriptions of the dress uniforms for each company, but was less detailed for the fatigue uniforms. If the fatigue uniforms of the Coldwater Light Artillery had red trim, there is a good possibility the the reporter would have not have given this detail. I am not saying the uniforms did have red trim but it is possible. The information you provided did call the gray uniforms, gray artillery uniforms. But just what is a gray artillery uniform? State regulations required them to adopt gray uniforms based on U.S. Artillery uniforms which would have been blue mounted jackets with red trim. Did they adopt gray mounted jackets with red trim? Hard to know for sure. The State regulations allowed them to use higher quality braiding for the normal worsted trim.
