The Michigan in the Civil War Message Board

For the Civil War era try the Niles Republican and the St. Joseph Traveler, both from Berrien County. These newspapers are at the State Library in Lansing and perhaps other libraries. Other counties from that part of the state had newspapers during the Civil War and might have information. St. Joesph County had the Three Rivers Reporter, the Three Rivers Western Chronicle, The Constantine Weekly Mercury & St. Joseph County Adverser and the Sturgis Journal. Kalamazoo County had the Kalamazoo Gazette and the Kalamazoo Telegraph. Van Buren County had the Paw Paw Van Buren County Press. All are at the State Library. Not all newspapers are available for the whole Civil War.
