The Michigan in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Sergeant Robert Alexander 8th Mich. Cavalry

OK. The Spotsylvania comment was the one that raised my eyebrows. The Civil War internment camps were in and around Danville in Pittsylvania County. Some of them were in large tobacco warehouses. At 10 years ago or so at least one of those old warehouses were still standing. Did the records give a hospital or camp number where he died? I used POW records for one soldier that listed those and I was able to ID a particular building for a vet that died there. It took an inquiry to Richmond National Battlefield Park where I was able to identify the hospital and camp that the vet died in. Those soldiers that died in that building were buried in a nearby cmetery and later removed to a Richmond area National Cemetery. I was able to id the cemetery where the remains were moved but not the grave.
