Howard - I only wish we had a photo, journal, or more information! I have joined the Tenney Family Association in an attempt to get some more details. He had a brother that fought in a regiment in Illinois and there is some information out there about him. I am also checking with the church in Junction City where he retired as minister to see if they have any history files on him. I will let you know what I find out.

I did find a poem called "December 7" (the date of the Battle of Prairie Grove) that was dedicated to him. You might be interested in that just for a little color for your book. You can find it at: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/poetry/brothers/dec7.html

Also, Marcus fought with an Illinois Regiment in the Mexican-American War and was with the group that captured Santa Ana's cork leg. It's quite a story. Supposedly Marcus was the one who actually grabbed it and carried it back to Illinois, but that is family legend. (Of course, it was also "just family legend" that he was a civil war hero, but when we visited the Prairie Grove site a few weeks ago, we found out it was actually true!).

The more I read about the Civil War (and pre-Civil War era) in Kansas, the more interested I get in the subject. It was quite interesting times in these parts, to say the least. Are there a few books you would recommend as the best on the subject?
