Good luck on your proposed book. I'm researching the people mentioned in the letters of Margaret Watts Hays, wife of CSA Col. Upton Hays. Her nephew, John Bunyan Rowland (1841-1919) of Cass Co., MO joined the MSG in 1861 and served with Alexander Nugent's Raiders and ended up eventually in the 14 th KS Cav. He returned to Cass Co. after the war, moved to KS in 1879 and was Postmaster of Marysville, Miami Co., KS in 1900. I want to write a short biography of John Rowland to accompany the letters. He was one of the few in that extended family of Watts, Berrys, Hays, Boones who fought for the Union.
