Just noticed their thread. I saw a reference to Johnson wintering in a Kansas town in late 1864. It made reference to his arm wound. He may have shot McGehee (actual spelling) but did not kill him. Despite all the stories and historical markers, McGehee was mustered out the next year in Arkansas. The brave Capt. Johnson also was a cattle thief.
