You can contact me at jajacks62@yahoo.com. Some women in the Civil war sacrified everything. You need to check out the following site: http://www.flickr.com/groups/american_civil_war_graves/ I am a co-host on this site and it has many stories of women who gave their all during the Civil war. Like this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photo67401/1096891608/ Certainly this young lady should be mentioned: http://www.flickr.com/photos/divemasterking2000/2506726000/ I think that you will like this site. As far as the changes that they went through, well the gentleman at the following link lost his leg and many Civil war Veterans had the same happen to them: http://www.flickr.com/photos/civilwar_veterans_tombstones/1044145524/
I am still trying to find the grave of a woman who fooled all her fellow soldiers into thinking that she was a man and carried on the act until her death when the coroner found out that the old soldier he was examining wasn't a male but was a female. She is supposted to be buried in Kansas but I haven't found her grave yet.
