Re: Civil war Veterans Buried in Kansas

My GG granduncle that I finally found is buried in El Dorado Kansas along with his wife. His name is Greenup Mercer and his wife`s name is Emily J. Floyd Mercer. They are buried in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. I live in Kentucky and haven`t been there in person yet. His grave shows he is in section ss lot 59 space 2. His grave is G. Mercer and not military marked. Her grave is in section ss, lot 59 space 1, and is marked with Emily J. Mercer. Greenup was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky 1-19-1839. Greenup enrolled with his younger brother Daniel 10-7-1861. They were mustered in Harrodsburg 1-2-1862. Greenup as a sergeant and Daniel as a Corporal. They were in the Unions 19th Kentucky Infantry, Company A. Daniel was killed at Pine Mountain, near Cumberland Gap 6-7-1862. Greenup went on with the 19th Kentucky and Mustered out 1-26-1865 in Louisville Ky. The 19th Kentucky started in Harrodsburg, went to the S.E. part of Kentucky marched from there to Louisville, Ky. down to Memphis to form part of General Sherman`s army which moved on Vicksburg via Chickasaw Bayou They fought at Chickasaw Bluffs, Arkansas Post to Youngs Point La. where they stayed for some time. The 19th crossed to the rear of Vicksburg and took part in the battles of Port Gibson, Champions Hill, Black River Bridge and the sieges of Vicksburg and Jackson. After the siege of Jackson the 19th joined up with General Banks for the Red River Campaign. The battle of Sabine Cross-roads the regiment repelled 5 distinct charges before the the enmey broke through the lines. After the failure of the expedetion it returned to Baton Rouge La. where it remained until ordered to Louisville, Ky. where they were mustered out 1-26-1865. He must have been good, lucky or both to make it through that. Hope that wasn`t to long or boring. I have a picture of Greenup in his Civil War uniform. I wish you could put a picture of his grave on your Sunset Lawns Civil War Veterans site. I know his grave doesn`t look like he was there but he was. I believe he wouldn`t care to be recognized. Sorry this was so long. Thanks,Jeff Wilson Lexington Kentucky
