I’m looking for information on J.B. Swain [Joseph B. Swain] (Alias “Jeff Davis”).. noted Red Leg and “right hand man” of Jennison.

I am familiar with his activities with the 15th KS, and as part of my research into the 1st KCV have found that he was directly involved in the recruiting activities of that regiment. In late August 1862, he led a recruiting expedition into Platte County that did not go so well, and he is referenced as being associated with the regiment while at Fort Scott in the spring of 1863.

I am trying to flesh out my file on Mr. Swain with regards to his activities prior to August of 1862 as well as what became of him after the war (without much luck so far).
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated…
