I was contacted by a gentleman in CA who was doing research on a lawyer; among information he wanted was on the lawyer supposely being the attorney on the famous muder case of Major Mefford. My husband and I spent 2 hours in the back recesses of the Bourbon Co., KS courthouse basement finding the old journal containing the court docket from 1864-1868. So far that is the only reference I have found to the case. The actual case files no longer exist which would have all the details. At the present time I am in the process of transcibing the entire journal. I am David's reaserch assistant so when the gentleman said it involued Major Mefford I had wondered if it was the Mefford from the 6th. He is entered with his first name and middle initial instead of David. David and I have found enough information to feel that we do have the David Mefford of the 6th. I still have another county record to go through to see if I can find more information.
From other bits and pieces that I have come across he is becoming a very interesting man.
