I did a search on Soldier and Sailors System and James A. did not come up. There are two Bones from TN. a James C. which mustered from the more Eastern Co. of TN. and a James M.Bone 18 Regt. TN.Inf. . This Regt. mustered from the general area around Dickson Co. slightly east.Cannon,Sumner,Davidson,Rutherford,Cheatam,Wilson and Bedford Counties. This James was in CO. I which in general mustered from Wilson CO.. Just exactly where did he die in IL.?That might give a clue. What was his trade?
There is a chance he was arrested as a civilian as this area was under Federal control.I checked, quickly. Series II of Official Records ,Prisoners of War and State, and I don't see him.You might check local histories of the area to see if Civilians were arrested in the time in question.Provost fell under the Dept. of the Cumberland I believe. There are many posibilities. Good Luck!
