I don't have much more descriptive data about him. He was born October 4, 1833 in Washington Co, Va, although an 1880 census indicates a birthplace of "Tenasee," where his father Walter Johnson was born.

Of some curiosity for me is John F.'s earlier service in what was called the "Mountain Marksmen" of Company I in the 48th Virginia, which raises the question: might he have been a good match for "Yates' Sharpshooters" of the Illinois 64th?
