I am researching my great grandfather, John Mize.
He was born about 1818 in Kentucky, some censuses show Indiana.
But, in 1860, he is living in Shelby County, Illinois, with his wife Sarah (Henderson) and his children.
He disappears after that.
I have found a John Mize buried about 1864 in a prisoner of war cemetery in Indiana.
Found a note on FIND A GRAVE saying he had been reburied at some point but just in a different area of the same cemetery, apparently.
Being from Illinois, I'm not sure if he was Union buried in a Confederacy Prison area or vice versa, or possibly was not a prisoner but got killed and was buried in the group?
I desperately need some guidance as to where I can go to find more information.
Thanks,
Pat
