There are no company muster roll records of his service. Other than the notes by the War Department, the only document in his file is a hand written note signifying his enlistment in Capt. Jordan's Company D of the 7th Virginia Cavalry, signed by Turner Ashby, Commanding Cavalry, dated 7 April 1862

On 4/6/1862 he mustered into "D" Co. VA 7th Cavalry
(date and method of discharge not given)
(Not on muster rolls)
He also had service in:
"B" Co. VA 58th Militia (Prior service)
He was described at enlistment as:
6', ruddy complexion, dark eyes, dark hair
Other Information:
born in 1844 in Shenandoah County, VA

Jerry [Jeremiah] Jerimah W. Fairburn, age 18, Private, Company D, 7th (Ashby's) Virginia Cavalry, enlisted April 6, 1862 at Hawkinstown, Virginia for 2 years, 9 months, or the War, recorded on the November, 1862 Regimental Return dated November, 1862** as having returned to his Company November 4 at Berryville, his records contain correspondence dated January 15, 1915, between the Adjutant General, War Department, with the Louisiana Board of Pension Commissioners which notes: his name " . . . has not been found on the rolls . . . of Company D . . . and no record has been found of service, capture or parole of a man of this name and regiment," no other records

* In June, 1862, the regiment was reduced from twenty-nine to ten companies, ten companies having been assigned to the 12th (formerly 10th) Reg't Va. Cav.; seven companies were organized as the 17th Battn Va. Cav., which was afterward increased to the 11th Reg't Va. Cav.; one company assigned to the 14th Reg't Va. Cav. and one company became Capt. Carter's Batt'y Va. Art'y.***
