Re: Arkansas Post, & James J Shoemaker

I do not believe James had anything to do with the 37th. I just have no record of him, beyond his capture while serving with Hart's Battery.

I believe I may have two separate records for Ambrose--one with Hart's Battery--and somehow he was separated so that he could subsequently enlist in the 37th.

This is the full information I started with, for Company A, 37th Arkansas Infantry:

SHOEMAKER, A. Pvt
Enl 23 May 1863 at Little Rock, AR. Captured 4 Jul 1863 at Helena, AR & sent to MP Alton, IL Jul 1863 then to Ft Delaware, DE 29 Feb 1864. Exchanged 7 Mar 1865. In hospital at Richmond, VA 11 Mar 1865.
SHOEMAKER, AMBROSE M. Pvt
Enl 23 May 1863 at Little Rock, AR. Age 23. Captured 4 Jul 1863 at Helena, AR & sent to MP Alton, IL 9 Jul 1863 then to Ft Delaware, DE 29 Feb 1864. Exchanged 7Mar1865. In hospital at Richmond, VA 11 Mar 1865.
SHOEMAKER, E.M. Ref: filed with E.M. Shoemaker.

Please tell me what you mean when you say I need to acquire a copy of these CMSRs to see what information might be available about these two. How/where do I acquire, and what does "CMSR" mean. Sorry to ask what no doubt is an elementary question. But I would like directions and I will try to obtain the records.

Thank you very much for your help.
