According to Fort Delaware Society records, Ambrose M. SHOEMAKER was discharged from the Fort Delaware hospital on 8 JUN 1865. He would have been released from Fort Delaware a few days later upon taking the taking the Oath. Our database also shows him to be a member of Company A, 1st Arkansas Infantry, which I now think is a mistake. Your data suggests that he was released early and delivered to Confederate authorities on 7 MAR 1865. I would like to have Bryan's transcription of Ambrose's CMSR confirming this. If you don't have that, I can get in touch with Bryan separately.

How/where do I acquire, and what does "CMSR" mean. Sorry to ask what no doubt is an elementary question. But I would like directions and I will try to obtain the records. <<<
The Compiled Military Service Records come from the National Archives. They have an excellent webpage explaining what these records are and how to order them online. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/military/civil-war/index.html#confed
You can also purchase copies of these same records through the Military Records Research Service which supports these Civil War Message Boards at http://history-sites.com/research/index.html [see linkage at the top of this page]. Purchasing copies of the CMSR and other records through MRRS gives financial support to the History-Sites.com CWMBs which provides a place to exchange Civil War research information at no cost to the participants.
