I know that Brian works from the CMSR. Would you mind posting here all of the service highlights details that Brian gave you? Date and place of enrollment, date and place of capture, date and place of release for Ambrose and Asbury?

We have a "J. J. SHUMAKER" in the Society database, but he is credited to the 30th Viriginia and there is a CMSR for Sergeant J. J. SHUMAKER enrolled in the 30th Battalion, Virginia Sharpshooters. This soldier was captured at Waynesboro, Virginia on 2 MARCH 1865 and the battalion disbanded afterwards. So this man is not your James J. SHOEMAKER/SHUMAKER.
