The Civil War Prisons Message Board

Re: CSA POW's at Louisville, KY

Dear Ms. Price,

I hope Hugh will respond to your question about obtaining Compiled Military Service Records. I would always recommend our service, but especially in your case, with possible transcription errors, name misspells, wrong unit designation (29th or 39th?), I believe you definitely want to work with our Confederate records specialist, Mr. Alan Pitts. Alan is a nationally recognized expert on Civil War personnel, units and organization. If anyone can make sense of this man's records, it will be Alan and you will be able to question and communicate with him during the order processing period, and after. Besides the likelihood of suffering an "ordeal" obtaining the complete and accurate record of your veteran from the NARA, it can take up to three (3) to four (4) months to obtain your records, that is, if you don't get a rejection or "no such record available" message from the NARA. If all you "i's" and "t's" are not dotted and crossed, respectively, you may find dealing with the archives a frustating experience. Our service usually provides complete service records within two (2) to three (3) weeks or faster, if special handling is requested.

Sorry for interjecting, but I'm very proud of the work our researchers do and I wanted to tell you so. Finally, a portion of your payment helps to support these message boards and is greatly appreciated.

Jim Martin
