Actually, Alice, there are indeed deck logs for the USS DE SOTO from the Civil War years. If you go to my (unfinished) web site on CIVIL WAR DECK LOGS AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES (see link below) you will note that those for the DE SOTO are available for certain periods in the 1860's.
Unfortunately, with my dozens of projects on the Civil War Navies and other associated subjects, I have not had the time to include the second part of this web site, and I do humbly apologise to all who peruse it. However I can provide data on other deck logs for those who enquire.
