Re: Question for Terry

Thx Terry, I had read that the USS DeSoto had captured the CSS Cumberland which was a blockade runner on Feb. 5, 1864 on the Gulf Coast. The Cumberland had been carrying a lot of gunpowder among other things. Could one assume that the DeSoto would take its prize to Key West? And would NOT the Naval personal on the Cumberland be also prisoners of War?

It would appear that the wounded Confederate would be bushwacked by either Union Sym. or Confederate deserters or both, wanting that wagon train. It would appear that the bushwacking took place near Hampton Springs, Fl in Taylor County.

Would it be a common record or uncommon having the name of the Confederate prisoner taken to Key West on whatever ship took him there on the deck logs? I will be in Washington DC at the archives in the near future and hopefully will be able to determine the correct ship.

Again thanks for your help as I consider this your area of expertise. Dennis
