The logbook probably would not be of much help to you. The awarding of a Medal of Honor could be a lengthy procedure, people usually didn't get their medals for a long time after their actions that earned it. The point is, the log book would not say "So-and-so got a Medal of Honor for something he did today." It might well be a year or more after the fact that he got his award. And I know of at least one official report of an action that mentions extreme heroism on the part of an individual, and later, when MOHs were handed out to eight individuals on that boat, the sailor mentioned in the official report did not get one.
