Bill, describe the pocket. Better yet describe a "gunners haversack". Are you referring to the leather bag that No. 5 carried with the charge and projectile? Or are you referring to a general artilleryman's or cannoneer's haversack? As these could vary greatly with rank and method of aquiring such. Depot issue, homemade, or sutler purchase. I saw a cool artillery officers haversack on a website (wish I could find that site) that had a leather satchel type bag that had a pocket on the outside for what appeared to be paperwork and on top of that was sewn a flapped pocket that would hold a half pint flask. I'm sure this would have been for medicinal purposes only. hehehe. Artillery seems to work smoother when it's well lubricated. This particular haversack was a modern piece but was described as being made from a description and picture of the original. I guess you have to draw your on conclusion there.
