Susan Maria (Newlun, Parkhill) Todd is buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak Township of St. Joseph County, Michigan. Her son, Asa, had been a resident of that area for a small amount of time... believe perhaps where he might have met his wife. She is in lot 140 under a small tree, nearby one of the largest marble obelisks on location (just west of Burr Oak on Highland Avenue), near the middle of the cemetery, south of the lane most prominently lined by an old growth of trees. Her day of death (April 11, 1877) doesn’t match that in the land record that I had found, but there is little doubt she is the widow of Andrew. We were able to search the court records in Centerville, enough to confirm that neither her date of death nor her probate was entered with the county. Not surprising, since the death was not recorded with the state, and the land record mentioned that she died intestate. But I did find that her son Asa owned land, and indeed called St. Joseph County his home before the year 1880. Five land records were found, transacted mostly between him and his wife’s family, and it seemed were all in Burr Oak. Susan is somewhat alone in her cemetery plot… part of a section of (eight?) gravesites which were originally intended for purchase by the same owner, but instead had some “recent occupants” under the name of Crofford (not “Crawford”). These may only be part of a family buried nearby, descended from a George Crofford (born 1822 Maryland), a physician and Surgeon from the area who died in 1903.
