The Michigan in the Civil War Message Board

Marshall Zouaves

Hello,

I'm very excited to be on this research forum and would like to start off with one I've had a heck of a time trying to find. According to the zouave database there was a company of zouaves from Marshall, Michigan known as the Marshall Zouaves. I live right next to Marshall and have done a lot of reasearch about its Civil War history but have never heard of these fellows. The historical society doesn't have a clue nor does the state archives. Any help you all can shed on this tricky subject would be much appreciated.

At this point in time all I have is their name, no company letter or regimental number. I suspect they may have been a part of the Marshall Light Guards but have been unable to varify that. Would really love to know if these boys actually saw action or if they were just a stay at home militia and what their zouave attire looked like.

Sorry for the long first post.

MATT
