July 8, 1864, sent to Fort McHenry, Md. July 12, near Baltimore, Md. July 20, 1864, transferred to Point Lookout July 21, paroled, n.d., admitted to hospital in Charlottesville November 1864, resumed furlough November 29, received at the office of the Provost Marshall General, Washington, DC on May 30, 1865

**This company subsequently became Co. E, 1st Battalion Maryland Cavalry

The 1st Battalion Maryland Cavalry was organized November 12, 1862. The designation was changed to the 1st Regiment Maryland Cavalry January 19, 1864

William M. Edelin enlisted as a Private in Company A 1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion September 1, 1862 at Leesburg, paroled at Appomattox, Court House April 10, 1865, newspaper clipping in his file:

W. M. Edelin Dies; Civil War Veteran, Special Dispatch to the Star.

"Hyattsville, Md., July 23.-William Marshal Edelin, 91, who served in the Confederate Army as a member of the 5thM Maryland Cavalry, died here early yesterday. His death was due to a fall from a second story window.

"Mr. Edelin formerly resided in the Bel Air, Md., neighborhood. Only a few years ago he survived several major operations. He was a descendant of early Maryland settlers, being a son of the late William M. and Jane Blake Edelin.

"Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the St. Jerome's Catholic Church here at 9:30 o'clock, with Rev. Chester J. Cyer, assistant pastor officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery."
