There is no doubt in my mind that Thomas Moonlight was of that breed of warrior that was fearless, determined and able. But those qualities in my estimation was matched by his carless disregard for others, a cavalier attitude towards the administration of his commands. His violation of the first principle of leadership, to set the example, clearly leaves him in that lower tier of good officers. That does not mean he did not get the job done when required. His actions along the Little Blue in 1864 were well done. I think though that was because he had a strong leader in Blunt.
