I hope you were able to find something of interest to you if you did access the ARK board. I have been going through my copy of the Price papers, and I found something new and interesting to me. You may already know this, but I'll pass it along anyway. On 10-31-1864 Major Gen Price convened a Board of Survey in Clarksville, Texas,to determine whether Major Hinney W. Tracy was at fault in the loss of $267,280.00 of money he was carrying as Chief Commissary. Viewed from this vantage point of time and place, I thought his excuse was flimsy, but the officers on the Board, who were also at the battle at Marmaton, thought it was reasonable. The Major had had $6oo,000.00 in his care. Apparently the Confederate retreat was almost a rout. They were burning their wagons to prevent them falling into Union hands, so he divided the money into two sacks, each weiging about 150 lbs., and gave about half of it to a Mr. Anson Davis to carry. The Major said that as he rode his horse through the men running from the fight, his shawl blew off and he draped it over the money sack. Less than 15 minutes later, by his account, he put his shawl back on and the money was gone. In this report, they speak of camping overnight on the Marmaton river, and mention the Little Osage River and Dogwood Creek. They also mention the capture of Gens. Marmaduke and Cabell. One of my ancestors fought under Cabell in the 7th ARK. Cavalry. He may well have been leading the charge south.
