Graham.... Unfortunately, American public schools do not go into as much detail as they could, nor do they spend as much time sectionalizing their history. So, Kansas history might focus a small amount on the Civil War, it would be very limited. Many people are suprised to find out that the Kansas City Plaza, an outdoor walking area with very nice shops along Brushy Creek, is also the location of one of the largest battles west of the Mississippi river during the Civil War (of which Thomas Moonlight played a conspicuous part).

Americans also do not connect their passion for sport to history, but there are roots there. Baseball was played by Civil War units and there are documented cases of snowball fights between regiments.
