Thanks for your response. The reason for the question was back in the 80's I was on a survey crew that staked the dikes and revetments on the river. On the Kansas side, next to Ft. Leavenworth when the river was quite low we found a 9" cannon ball with fuse. The only thing I can find on it is that it is a naval shot. That is why for my question on gunboats.
