I have found this series of letters fascinating, in an area which we here in the east hear little about. It is my intent to go through the available papers in 1857 next, but I may be wearing out the hospitality of this site. I have been sending the "originals", actually copies from microfilm, to the Kansas State Historical Society. There are a fair number of letters/articles which I have not posted, but have sent on to them. I am not copying or posting any letters from Missouri or Kansas papers, but try to focus on those letters which were written from Kansas to relatives, friends, or editors back in South Carolina.

Relative to the terrible distress in the Burnt District of Missouri, I recall that Harry Truman's mother, who was from Lamar, if I recall correctly off the top of my head, never had a good word to say about the Kansas Redlegs.
