Dr. Pelot's description of the Border Ruffians is truly perceptive and it is easy to see how these men could have become so outraged when the pro-slavery factions came into power in Kansas a few years later. These were the type of men who later formed the guerilla bands or Bushwackers who fought so determindly to resist the Kansas Militia and Federal troops occupying and causing so much destruction in the Missouri Border counties.
