Mike,

According to the pension application, he joined or somehow became connected with the 16th Indiana Inf. in Indiana or on the march and stayed with them for about a month. This gentleman, my gg-grandfather, apparently never returned to the 55th Indiana and got in a "little" trouble for joining, without going through all of the formalities, the 22nd Indiana Infantry. As you may know, this unit was horribly mangled at Perryville, just a few weeks later.

He was seriously wounded at Missionary Ridge, November 25,1863, and began receiving an invalid pension in 1865. He had to jump through some hoops and get affidavits, because he service with the 55th Indiana had a note that he had deserted. So he had to prove he had continued his service with the 22nd.

Thanks for the response. Are you producing any maps for your upcoming book?

Jim
