Sir,

I just happened to come across this post, so please disregard if you are no longer looking for answers to those questions. As you may remember, I've written a book on the Battle of Richmond, and as a result have done a good deal of research on each of the units engaged. While it is true that the vast majority of the Federal Army was captured in the hours immediately following the engagement, Lt.Col.John R.Mahan, while leading a large part of the 55th away from the Confederates, broke off from the flight of the main body, and headed to the northeast, rather than just the north, and escaped with a good many to cross the KY River near Boonesborough, on or very near the Combs Ferry. I say a large part, because only the 18th KY, Kentuckians who knew the land fairly well, had more men make it back to the safety of first Lexington, and then Frankfort. Let me know if you've already found what you're looking for. If not, I'll aid you in your research as much as I can.
