I've been thinking of discussing my ancestor's service in the Kentucky Campaign with you. Last year, I received John McPike's two-hundred and forty-eight (248) page pension application file. That's right, two-hundred and forty-eight pages. In his pension file "he" states that during the Kentucky campaign and specifically during the time of the battle of Richmond, KY, he was detached from the 55th Indiana and was serving with the 16th Indiana. I have read histories of the battle, none book-length, and I'm pretty familiar with the actions and losses of the 55th. I am less familiar with the 16th Indiana during this campaign and battle. In your research, have you come across any other members of the 55th Indiana serving temporarily with other units like the 16th Indiana or do you have any other comments?
