Yes, I found the David A Copson on the 1890 veteran's schedule and in the census. I can follow some of his family to Missouri in the next census but then he is 21.

On the wikipedia, they have that Army unit with SHerman on his March to the Sea, but other records indicate otherwise.

What is interesting is that Sarah Nichols (4 children by first husband from England, and 3 additional children believed to be by this husband) she went to Starke County in 1899 or so and started a dairy farm. The children by Copson all used the Nichols name, which was more common in England where she was from.
