Nancy; for some reason there is not too much information about the 9th Indiana Cavalry. I do have some stories in my personal collection but they at at best sparse. As you may know, that there were over 1200 men enlisted in this unit. Most of them were from south central Indiana. A large number of men were lost on he Sultana in April 1865. Col. George Jackson was in command and Lt Col. Eli Lilly was second in command. Jackson resigned his commission in June of '65 and with the promotion of Lilly to full Col. he remained with the unit until is was mustered out at Vicksburg in August of '65.
