Re: 2nd Indiana Cavalry unit history?

I am not aware of a general history, but there is an excellent history of the East Tennessee Campaign of 1863-64, written by a member of the unit, and published in Cincinnati in 1864. The only copy I know is located in the Indiana State Library, and is in too fragile a condition to photocopy. Perhaps someone could use a digital camera. It is excellent for that campaign (but apparently does not cover the period you wish).

I will put in a big plug for the Indiana State Library. It has as good a collection of manuscript sources as I have ever run across in a State Library. The only oen that comes close to comparison is the New York State Library, with the State Library of irginia a poor third. None of the others even come close. The big plus is that the Indiana State Historical Society, which also has excellent Civil War manuscript sources, is just across the street.

A trip to Indianapolis will give an incredible bang for your buck. They both are well-indexed on-line as well, so that you can screen the sources before hand. In my humble opinion, those two sources are among the best in the nation. Give them a try.

This comes from someone who is researching a Confederate unit.
