Re: letters written by soldiers from Indiana

Joe, please notify me.Who is publisher?
Not to change the subject. The spelling is Elliott a common mistake but, a pet pieve. The double L and double T Scots must look across the sea.Elliott is the Irish spelling Eliot is Scot.He was in Louisville around May 10,1863 as you may know all returning POW's of both the Army of Ohio and Cumberland were required to go through Louisville before returning to their respective regiments.Lt.John F.Elliott recieved a transfer Sp.F.O #131,Dept.of Cumberland May 14,1863 at Murfreesboro.I believe Willich exchanged around the same time.It was said Willich almost died do to having become infested with lice at Libby and trying to rid covered his fair skin with Mercurichrome(sp.)ointment becoming so sick he was transfered to the hospitol ward at Libby for several days.
It was my understanding it was Willich who should of been written up.I guess along with Johnson as he was not with his brigade when the confederate tide came rolling in.He was captured trying to get back.Capt.Edgarton was written up because his horses where 500 yards from the battery getting water therefor unable to move. They got off a couple of rounds before being captured actually fighting with the cannon swabs between his guns. The battery captured. The sad part is Sheridan reported CSA movement during the night(Picket less than 9 rods from CSA) forwarded to Rosecrans who semi dismissed.Sheridan had his men ready.Sheridan held. Johnsons Div. was not ready and one confederate stated he sat down to the best breakfast he had eaten in days...Lt.John F. Elliott's Co.K was relieving the night picket when,"Things got lively."His picket run over several killed, wounded and captured.I can hardly wait for the book!
