I'm a Mason myself. That's great about your ggrandfather having the square and compasses on his tombstone. I always pause when I see those. Some even wore that badge on their uniforms during the war. Saved their lives on many occasions just being part of a Brotherhood - even with your enemy. That's what fascinates me the most and the reason why I'm conducting this historical mystery into why the ceasefire at Kennesaw was called. I did find more on the 44th's Major Luther M. Sabin, where he was born, died, etc. and his tombstone location too. But no image available. It's up in Maine. I wonder if he has the same Masonic symbol on his as well. Now that would be telling!
