Does the entry in the Bible say that he was in the ILLINOIS 57th Infantry Regiment of just the 57th Infantry?
I can't find him in any Illinois Unit. I am wondering if perhaps he joined maybe an Iowa unit of Missouri perhaps. When did he pass away if you know that might help. I looked for him in the Illinois Cemetary listings and he is not there. Could have just "passed" through the cracks so to speak. Not sure. Tried the National Soldiers and Sailors system as well. No luck. The insigna can you describe it? I looked for men from Berlin and there were only two listed. One is white and the other is black I think since he was with the U S Colored Troops. IF you get more info let me know and I will search more for you.
