For the last 5 years I have been trying to obtain an original copy of a photo that has been reprinted in many books and magazine articles. It is of the 17th IL Infantry Regiment at Vicksburg after the surrender, taken from a high angle with 17th in parade formation with flags in the center. The reason I am looking for an original is the reprints are not very clear. The publications usually attribute the photo to the National Archives, but NA said it is not in their collection. I have also contacted the Library of Congress and they also said it is not in their collection. Does any one have an idea on how to track this down and get an original print?
