Thank you for that info. As the report says, the flag was captured on 6/27/64. This was a national flag and not a regimental flag as I understand. I don't think the 27th had a regimental flag. I am just guessing at this. Greg could better answer this question. In any case the report you submit is accurate. My great grand father was in the 90th Illinois and was at this battle. The man who was responsible for his enlistment was Lt. White. He wrote two niceletters about this time that is on line if you care to read them. Will give you a perspectve from the Federal side of this time.
I would guess that this flag was the second flag they had. The first is in possesion of the Illinois National Guard at Springfied and is in bad shape. I don't know if it is from wr wounds or just time as it is made from silk and as you know they did not take te elements very well. The other one that the state has shows among its battle record, Kenesaw Mountain and Atlanta so I would think that it is the last one issued to the regiment. Once again just a guess but a good one I think.
