James S. Bean, Private, Company G, 27th Alabama Infantry, captured at Fort Donelson February 16, 1862, sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. prison, sent to Vicksburg, Miss. for exchange September 4, 1862, no further records

Note: The only surviving muster rolls for Company G begin with the Sept/Oct., 1863 muster. As neither of these men appear, it must be assumed they had been dropped from the rolls sometime after their being exchanged. This could have been due to death, discharge, capture, desertion, or failure to return to their company after exchange. We have no way of knowing through these records.
