Believe you may have these two men mixed up.

Thomas N. Gardner enrolled in Captain B. F. Harris' Independent Company (Brunswick Rifles), Georgia Volunteers,* May 29, 1861 at Brunswick by Capt. B. F. Harris for a period of 60 days, no further records

* A majority of the members of this company appear to have enlisted during August, 1861, in different companies of the 13th Regiment Georgia Infantry which subsequently became 26th Regiment Georgia Infantry

Thomas N. Gardner elected 1st Lieutenant at organization August 1861, Company K, 26th Georgia Infantry, elected Major August 24,1861 at St. Simeon Island, dropped on re-organization May 12, 1862, in his files is a War Dept. note re Georgia Commissioner of Pensions dated January 19, 1917

Comment: I would consider it doubtful that he would have returned to active duty.

Thomas L. Gardner enlisted as a Private in Company E, 12th South Carolina Infantry in the Lancaster District March 29, 1862, returned to duty from Farmvill, Va. Gen. Hospt. February 10, 1863, sick in hosptial May 16,1863, admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital, Richmond, Va. June 3, 1863, gunshot would left arm, returned to duty June 7, reported wounded at Gettysburg July 1, captured at Gettysburg, Pa. July 3, 1863, paroled at De Camp General Hospital, Davids Island, New York Harbor, n.d., left arm amputated at the Episcopal Church Hospital, Williamsburg, Va September 15, 1863, furloughed September 21, 1863, retired from Invalid Corps. September 19, 1864, "totally disqualified", recommended for retirement while at home wounded November 15, 1864
