Thomas N. Gardner from Georgia

I have just read a couple of posts on RootsWeb concerning Thomas N. Gardner, who was apparently wounded at Gettysburg (lost an arm) and captured on 4 July during the retreat. He is reported to have been sent to two prison camps and returned home after the war, dying 10 years later at age 47. That would make him about 35 at Gettysburg. I am trying to find any information as to his unit and prison history. The Soldiers/Sailors Database lists him in the Brunswick Rifles, which would be Company A (old K) in the 26th Georgia, where he held the rank of 1st Lieutenant through Major. But from my Gettysburg sources I show no record of him. As an officer, he should have wound up at Johnson's Island, Ohio.
