Definitely not CSA. It is a submarine built near the end of the Civil War for the US Navy, but rejected for service. The inventor took the sub, named the "Sub Marine Explorer" to Panama to be used in pearl diving operations. It had a unique mechanism allowing pressurization to be equalized underwater to permit divers to off load. Unfortunately, this also resulted in several of the divers dying from the then unknown phenomenon "the bends". So, it was abandoned off the coast near an island and has laid there rusting since 1869. A Canadian researcher took a trip to the island to see what locals thought was a Japanese midget sub and after two years of research identified the wreck. It may be recovered if it is not so deteriorated as to making removal impossible. This information came from "Naval History" magazine, published by the US Naval Institute. It is in this month's issue along with a photo of the wreck.
